Special Collections
ELON AUTHORS COLLECTION: This collection contains
books written by Elon faculty, staff, students and alumni. Most
editions are signed.
MCLENDON CIVIL WAR COLLECTION: Predominately
books about the Civil War from the Confederate viewpoint. This
collection of books was given to the library by Mr. Hugh McLendon,
a long-time patron of the Library and noted Civil War historian.
JOHNSON COLLECTION: The core books of this
collection are by southern authors assembled by Ruth Johnson.
Ms Johnson was the sister of Oma U. Johnson who was the cataloger
in the library for over 30 years. Ms Ruth Johnson owned a bookstore
in Raleigh, NC. At the present time, we are adding any signed
copy received by the library and representative publications of
speakers who have spoken on campus.
CHURCH HISTORY COLLECTION: The Church History
collection contains materials relating to the Christian Church
(O'Kelly) and the Southern Conference of the Christian Church.
The collection consists of church histories, biographies, The
Christian Sun, The Christian Annual, Minutes of the Southern Conference
and published materials related to the Christian Church (O'Kelly)
and Christianity. Most materials predate 1965.
MONCURE COLLECTION: This collection contains
the complete works of Jane Belk Moncure. Mrs. Moncure is a noted
children's author for pre-school children. Her "Word Bird" series
is in many libraries.
