Help Desk

Our Mission
The Elon University Technology Help Desk strives to provide quality technical support to all students, faculty and staff members. We are dedicated to resolving hardware and software needs for IBM and Apple based computer platforms.

This web site is an alternate method of providing users with helpful information and tools to enhance computer skills.

For further assistance please contact us by phone at 336-278-5200, send Email to helpdesk@elon.edu or visit us at: 114 W. Lebanon (Across from Subway).

Help us, help you
Most technology problems can be resolved by restarting your computer. If your problem is stemming from an external device (printer, scanner, etc.) you should also turn that device off and back on.

If you have already tried restarting your computer you may also want to try shutting down your computer for a couple of minutes, then reboot to see if that fixes the problem.

• If you have a docking station, shut down the computer, take the laptop out, put the laptop back in the docking station and turn it back on.
• If your computer is frozen, try holding in the power button until the computer shuts off completely. Once you have done that then you should restart the computer and see if that resolves the problem. If it does not then you should call ext.5200.

Before contacting us via phone or e-mail please have the following information ready so that our consultants will be better able to assist you:

1) Make and model of the computer
2) Operating system and version (e.g., Windows XP or Mac OSX)
3) Exact text of error message (if any)
4) Be able to describe briefly what you were trying to do and what happened: detail the exact sequence of events that led to the problem (e.g. the commands you issued or the procedure you followed that produced the error)
