Elon University - ELR

Academic Service-Learning

What is academic service-learning?

Academic service-learning allows students to further develop classroom knowledge and ideas through participation in a community project. Specially designed service-learning courses cater to a variety of interests. By pairing academics with service, these courses aim to enhance the learning process through real-life application. Sometimes academic service-learning will be done as a group, while other times individual projects may be necessary.  Elon offers both local domestic and international service-learning courses.

What are the eligibility requirements?

Eligibility requirements vary from course to course. Check the Elon course catalog for possible prerequisites.

How do I sign up for an academic service-learning course?

Register for a service-learning course when you sign up for your other classes in the fall, winter, spring, or summer terms.  Academic service-learning courses are listed by department and can be recognized by the addition of “SL” to the course title.
