For Fiction, Poetry, and Nonfiction, these positions are available: Section Editor, Assistant Editor, Staff, and Reader. 

Section Editor: should be a Junior/Senior in the fall of 2005 who has completed the advanced course in the genre they’re applying for.  Depending on number of submissions, this person may be responsible for soliciting submissions in their genre. This person will make sure that the submissions in their genre are read, judged, and copyedited by their staff based on the Colonnades rubric.  They will have to set meeting times for their staff, and they will be responsible for making the final decisions about submissions in their genre before the Editors-in-Chief review them.  Section editors are required to attend all editorial staff meetings.

Assistant Editor: should be a Freshman/Sophomore who is interested in working under the editor to organize meetings, manage submissions and make sure the selection process goes smoothly.  The assistant editor will be required to attend all editorial staff meetings. This person will have taken ENG 213.

Section Staffs: are comprised of members who read the submissions after the general staff and narrow down the selections to give to the editors.  This staff will meet with their editor to divide up the submissions in their genre so that every member reads every submission, and they are responsible for the initial copy-edit of the chosen selections.  These staffs will have a specific rubric to adhere to, and individual staff members will be called on to defend their choices if necessary.  Staff members must have completed ENG 213.

Readers: are the Colonnades general staff who are first to read through all of the submissions and judge them based on our rubric.  These students must have completed ENG 110. This work will be done primarily during the spring semester.

Web Design:

Editor: Should have experience with DreamWeaver.  Will work toward increasing Colonnade’s web presence, gaining a link on E-net’s main page, and revamping the site itself, including an update of content.  Will be in charge of organizing web staff, arranging for meetings and reporting progress to editorial staff/soliciting web materials from editorial staff. This person is also expected to generate new ideas about the content of the site, and will be as integral to the creative process as other section editors.  The Web editor is required to attend all editorial staff meetings.

Staff: Should have experience with DreamWeaver.  These people will assist the web editor in designing and updating the magazine’s website.  The web staff may be called upon for input into web-specific material, such as flash presentations, streaming audio, hypertext, etc.

Design/Layout:

Editor: This person should have experience with PageMaker and/or Quark.  This person will be in charge of organizing layout staff and will ultimately be responsible for the final published product.  This person should also have strong ideas about design, and may work closely with the art/photography staff in creating an original design for the magazine.  This editor is required to attend all editorial staff meetings.

Staff: This staff designs the layout of the magazine, and it does most of its work after the submissions have been chosen, usually in Winter and Spring terms.  Must have experience with PageMaker.

Art/Photography:

Editors: This person will advertise for and collect submissions from theart department, and they will make final judgments of entries for the Editors-in-Chief to review.  This person will organize their staff to assist in advertisement and collecting of submissions, and they will meet to discuss their final decisions.  This person will also be responsible for drafting a rubric for their staff to review submissions, and will be called upon for input regarding art used for the web site.  Should have completed upper level art courses. 

Assistant Editor should be a Freshman/Sophomore who is interested in working under the editor to organize meetings, manage submissions and make sure the selection process goes smoothly.  The assistant editor will be required to attend all editorial staff meetings. This person will have taken introductory art coursework.

Staff: Staff will assist in the advertisement and collection of art submissions from the art department.  They will make the initial judgments of submissions based on the rubric created by the art/photography editor and may be called upon to defend their selections.

Publicity:

Manager: This person is in charge of publicizing all Colonnades-related events, including readings, unveilings and submission solicitations.  This person should have a strong understanding of advertising channels within the University and an ideal candidate will be well-connected.  This person will be in charge of organizing the publicity staff and will ultimately be responsible for the public image of the magazine.  The publicity manager will be required to attend all editorial staff meetings.  This person should have completed upper-level Communications courses

Staff: The publicity staff will be in charge of publicizing all Colonnades – related events, including making posters, creating newspaper/radio/television advertisements and emailing advertising targets.  This staff is also in charge of soliciting submissions at certain times throughout the year.
