CCM Leadership Application


Thank you for prayerfully considering a position on CCM's executive team! As a member of the executive team, you will be expected to be a leader and role model for the Catholic Community of Elon for the 2013-2014 academic year (fall semester, winter term, spring semester). Please read below to learn more about what being a CCM leader entails, and when you are ready to apply, just click the button at the bottom of the page.

The Executive Team

The CCM executive team is charged with the important mission of forming and leading the Catholic faith community on Elon's campus. The team will work together, along with the CCM staff, to encourage students' spiritual growth and increase fellowship. This will require a weekly time commitment and dedication to your ministry.

Attendance at the following is mandatory (please let us know if you foresee any conflicts):

  • Exec Retreat - TBD May 2013
  • Executive Team planning meetings every other week
  • One of either the 6pm or 9pm Sunday Mass each week
  • Exec Retreat - Fall (one-day retreat on Monday before start of fall semester)
  • Year-Opening Newman Center BBQ (August 28, 2013)
  • Fall Beach Retreat (September 13-15, 2013)
  • Elon Org Fair - beginning of Fall
  • Exec Retreat - Spring (one-day retreat on Monday before start of spring classes)
  • Spring Retreat (TBD April 2014)

Attendance at the following are highly encouraged:

  • Weekly Wednesday Night Catholic
  • Small groups
  • CCM social events (dinners, ice skating)
  • Weekly service opportunities, and Fall and Spring Break service trips
  • Newman Center Open House on Move-In Weekend (August 23, 2013)
  • Family Weekend Reception (September 28, 2013)
  • CCM Homecoming Tailgate (November 9, 2013)
  • Confirmation Retreat at Blessed Sacrament

In addition to the individual responsibilities described below, the team will work together to plan and promote larger events with CCM. The planning of annual fall beach retreat and spring retreat will be a joint duty of the team, as well as the Confirmation Retreat at Blessed Sacrament Church in downtown Burlington. We encourage you to speak with the current student leader of the position for which you're applying, to grasp a better idea of what to expect.

Individual Ministry Responsibilities


CCM President:

  • Acts as a role model for the entire CCM community, encouraging spiritual growth, community building and leadership development
  • Meets weekly with Fr. Gerry, full-time ministry staff, and CCM Vice President, and works closely with them for all CCM programming and development
  • Runs bi-weekly planning meetings for the Executive team, creates agendas, and facilitates discussion
  • Acts as a liaison between CCM and the University, attends mandatory leadership meetings several times a semester, and presents the organization at SGA budget hearings
  • Looks to foster positive relationships with University faculty and staff, and other student (especially religious) organizations
  • Acts as a liaison between CCM and other religious organizations on campus and sits on the Religious Life Council, run by the Truitt Center of Religious Life; attends meetings once a month
  • Works to support each executive team member in their particular ministries and partners with the Peer Ministry Coordinator to provide accountability to their entire team
  • Works with Minister of Spirituality to facilitate both Fall and Spring Retreats
  • Seeks to go above and beyond the expectations of the role in an attempt to strengthen the entire Catholic community
  • Acknowledges that their role as CCM President is not limited to their attitude and behavior at CCM events but at all times

CCM Vice President/CCM Treasurer:

  • Assists the CCM President in leading weekly activities and in the implementation of other CCM events developed by the Executive Team
  • Fills in for the CCM President at Executive Team, Religious Life Council, and other meetings when President is incapacitated
  • Meets weekly with Fr. Gerry, full-time ministry staff, and CCM President, and works closely with them for all CCM programming and development
  • Assists other ministers on the Executive Team to ensure the success of their respective responsibilities
  • Serves as official Treasurer for CCM to the university
    • Prepares and presents the CCM organization at SGA budget hearings along with the CCM President
    • Works with CCM staff to create budget for CCM events using SGA funds and relays budget to CCM Execs
    • Collects receipts from Execs to file petty cash reimbursements from SGA
    • Helps Execs to apply for additional funding for events through grants from SPARKS or the Fun Fund
    • Counts collection at the end of attended (6pm or 9pm) Sunday Mass
    • Keeps track of money at CCM fundraisers and ensures all funds are relayed back to CCM staff
    • Signs documents and check requests as needed

Minister of Liturgy:

  • Coordinates weekly 6pm & 9pm Sunday Masses by:
    • Creating a schedule through Google Docs for Eucharistic ministers, Greeters, and Lectors for each Mass
    • Sending reminders before Sunday Mass each week using the website system
    • Ensuring Mass logistics including the set up of the altar, music books, and pew ropes (or delegates these duties to other CCM members)
    • Having sign-in sheet ready for Liturgical Ministers
    • Ensuring that all Liturgical Ministers have checked in or that replacements are found in a timely manner
    • Checking with greeter to make sure collection takers/gift bearers are found before Mass
    • Helping to clean up after each Mass
    • Keeping track of Mass attendance numbers
  • Holds trainings once each semester for students interested in Liturgical Ministries
  • Helps set up and coordinate Mass at Wednesday Night Catholic, Friday Mass, and other Masses (or delegates these duties to other CCM members if schedule not permitting)

Minister of Community Building:

  • Takes initiative to plan and organize community events such as:
    • Football tailgating
    • Spring outdoors day
    • Ice skating
    • Laser tag
    • Bowling
  • Encourages attendance at events through personal invitations
  • Encourages the use of the Newman Center for studying and fellowship
  • Helps coordinate Sunday Night Suppers and Tuesday dinners at the Newman Center
  • Coordinates Alpha Omega program and organizes events for those involved

Minister of Spirituality:

  • Facilitates the Executive Team in planning and executing the Fall Beach Retreat, Winter Retreat, and Spring Retreat, which includes choosing a retreat theme and setting up sessions
  • Encourages participation in small groups through personal invitations
  • Encourages attendance and participation at Wednesday Night Catholic
  • Seeks and creates opportunities for prayer on campus, such as Stations of the Cross during Lent

Minister of Service:

  • Takes initiative to plan and organize opportunities to serve and reach out to the community through the following programs:
    • Nursing Home
    • Boys & Girls Club
    • Habitat Re-Store
    • Allied Churches
    • Loaves & Fishes
    • Kopper Top
    • Habitat House
    • others
  • Recruits and encourages students to be more involved in service projects
  • Coordinates the cooking and serving of a meal at Allied Churches the first Monday in November and in May
  • Coordinates the annual Angel Tree program during the Christmas Season

Minister of Public Relations:

  • Takes minutes at all meetings and distributes them to the entire Executive Team
  • Sends out a weekly email to CCM Moodle group with announcements and upcoming events
  • Helps Execs to promote respective CCM events through Facebook and other social media, Moseley digital boards, table tents, etc.
  • Ensures CCM events and activities are added to the official CCM Calendar
  • Recruits for and attends fair at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh to promote CCM
  • Assumes the role of photographer at CCM events (or delegates to another CCM member)
  • Takes advantage of opportunities to make CCM visible by submitting pictures and articles about CCM to University Media outlets

Minister of Athletics:

  • Coordinates the scheduling of intramural sports for CCM. Suggested sports: Flag Football, Outdoor Soccer, Dodgeball, Bowling, Kickball, Basketball, Indoor Soccer
    • Assumes the role of team captain for all sports and designates co-captain
    • Takes charge of ensuring that the deposit is paid and then returned for each sport
    • Creates announcements, invites students, and encourages participation for each sport
    • Post scheduled games for each sport on the CCM Calendar
    • Notifies team members before each game of time and meeting place, or cancellation
    • Leads (or delegates to another team member) prayer before and after each game
  • Works with Minister of Community Building to coordinate homecoming game tailgate
  • Seeks other opportunities for the CCM community to come together around sports

Minister of Social Justice:

  • Plans and facilitates CCM events that bring awareness to issues of social justice and Catholic Social Teaching
  • Coordinates activities for Respect Life Month in October
  • Coordinates trips to March for Life in Raleigh, NC, and possibly Washington, DC, in January
  • Works with Minister of Service to plan reflection opportunities after service events
