Elon's chapter of Alpha Phi Omega takes part on campus, in our surrounding community, to our nation, and to members of our fraternity. Each member of the fraternity logs at least 20 hours of service per semester, however many people go over this requirement - in the 2009-2010 school year, our chapter logged over 3000 hours!
Our chapter takes part in a wide variety of service projects throughout the year:
Campus activities:
-Ushering for performing arts and other cultural events
-Dancing to raise money and awareness for Duke University's Children's Hospital at Elonthon, a 24-hour dance marathon
-Assisting and donating at campus blood drives
-Answering phone calls and driving other students with Safe Rides, a safe and confidential ride service on weekends
Community activities:
-Leading a local boy scout chapter with Boy Scouts' Soccer and Scouting program
-Cleaning up a local stretch of highway with North Carolina's Adopt-a-Highway program
-Mentoring local elementary and middle schoolers through Elon's Lunch Buddies, Burlington's Boys and Girls Club, and at various Alamance Burlington County schools
-Building homes with Habitat for Humanity
-Gardening at Timberlake Farm, an organic garden in Whitsett, NC
-Doing crafts and socializing with residents at Blakey Hall retirement home
-Leading fellowship and helping at athletic events for special children and adults with Elon Community Church's Special Fridays program and Alamance County Special Olympics
-Caring for animals like horses at KopperTop Life Learning Center in Liberty, NC, cats and dogs with Burlington Animal services, and rescued wild animals like large cats (lions, tigers, lynx, bobcats, etc.) and other animals at the Conservators' Center in Carrboro, NC
-Distributing food and other free services for local families at Loaves & Fishes Christian Food Ministry
National activities:
-Taking part in walks and other events to raise money and promote awareness for national groups like the Multiple Sclerosis Society,the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International, and the Alliance for AIDS Services
-Writing to elementary school children all over the USA to promote literacy with In2Books
Fraternity activities:
-Providing free rides for other members with Sober Brother, a safe and confidential ride service on weekends for members of the fraternity
-Promoting Alpha Phi Omega on campus throughout the year through fellowship, service, and fundraising activities
