Maintaining a sense of
community at Elon will require that individuals and groups be recognized
and rewarded for their achievements and contributions to the Elon mission.
Although we believe that excellent teaching informed by scholarship continues
to be primary, we also believe that recognizing and rewarding members for
mentoring and service will help ensure that Elon remain a strong and vibrant
- Clearly define and reward the mentoring and service dimensions of the educational mission of the institution.
- Recognize the value of service in the professionalization, promotion and tenure processes and in merit salary considerations.
- Establish a "service award" to be presented annually. This award would be similar to the teaching and research awards currently given and could be awarded to a member of the faculty or staff or to a student.
