ACADEMIC STANDING COMMITTEE
REPORT TO THE FACULTY 2002-2003
As of the date of this report, the Academic Standing
Committee has met seven times during 2002-03.
Items discussed by the committee include:
Reviewed academic standing reports for spring and fall 2002. Reviewed corresponding
demographic data of students placed on probation and suspended.
Reviewed the description of the Academic Standing Committee in the Faculty
Handbook By Laws (Section 6). Recommended changes to more accurately describe
the duties of the committee to Academic Council for a vote by the Faculty.
Reviewed the description of the Academic Standing Committee in Faculty
Handbook Section II-12: Committees of the Faculty. Recommended changes
to more accurately describe the Policies and Procedures of the committee
to the Provost as Handbook editor.
Reviewed data from ANAC schools and discussed criteria for graduation with
Latin Honors. Recommended change in GPA criteria for graduation with cum
laude honors to Provost and Academic Council.
Reviewed data from ANAC schools and discussed criteria for Deanís and Presidentís
Lists. Consulted with the Provost and tabled recommendations for changes
to criteria regarding specific grades earned and semester GPA requirements.
Discussed the impact of OnTrack paperless grades and student records on
academic advisor access to student information crucial to academic advising.
Discussed academic (retention) standards for probation and suspension.
Discussed policy on repeating courses.
Recommendations forwarded to Academic Council and/or
the Provost include:
Change to the criteria for graduation with (Latin) Honors, increasing the
GPA standard for cum laude from 3.4 to 3.5, effective for students graduating
Changes to the duties of the committee articulated in the By Laws of the
Faculty Handbook to accurately describe the duties of the committee.
Changes to the policies and procedures of the committee articulated in
Section II-12 of the Faculty Handbook to accurately describe the procedures
and policies of the committee to align this section with the By Laws.
